More adult questions
Is Adult BJJ beginner-friendly?

Yes. New students learn foundational movements and positions before progressing to more complex situations. You do not need to know how to grapple before your first class.

Do I need to be in shape before starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

No. You can start at your current fitness level and improve conditioning, strength, coordination, and mobility through regular training at an appropriate pace.

Am I too old to start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Probably not. Adults of many ages begin with no martial arts experience. BJJ is technical, so students can continue improving positioning, timing, and efficiency over time.

What is the difference between Gi and No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Gi BJJ uses the traditional uniform, or gi, and includes grip-based techniques. No-Gi BJJ is usually practiced in athletic clothing such as a rash guard and shorts, without gripping clothing. Jiyu's schedule includes both training options.

How often should a beginner train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

For many beginners, two to three classes per week offers a useful balance of steady learning and recovery. The best schedule depends on your goals, age, experience, recovery, and availability.
